Wizard of Floyd Turns Milwaukie’s Chapel Theatre Psychedelic |
The November production reimagines The Wizard of Oz through 21 Pink Floyd songs and a live cover band |

Chapel Theatre is preparing a November production that puts Dorothy, Oz, and a live Pink Floyd cover band into the same dreamlike world.
Wizard of Floyd runs November 5 through 21 at 4107 SE Harrison Street in Milwaukie.
The show retells the familiar journey through the lyrics of 21 Pink Floyd songs, mixing theater, rock concert energy, dance, and psychedelic design.
According to the official production page, Dorothy lands in a post-war Oz ruled by sinister witches and a Wizard hiding behind the curtain.
Her companions still search for courage, heart, wisdom, and freedom, but the production gives those familiar goals a darker psychological edge.
Performances are scheduled Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
November 21 is listed as a two-show day, with performances at both 2 and 7:30 p.m.
The production is written by Steve Coker and directed by Corinn and Illya deTorres, with Rob LeFebvre serving as music director.
The live-band format makes this more than a jukebox musical, because the music drives the atmosphere and the characters’ movement through Oz.
Ticket availability and current prices should be checked through Chapel Theatre before choosing a performance.
The regional arts calendar offers another place to confirm dates and discover nearby November performances.
Evening audiences should allow time for parking, while matinee visitors can pair the show with an early dinner or downtown stop.
People sensitive to theatrical lighting or loud live music may want to ask the venue about production effects before purchasing.
For local theatergoers ready for something strange and ambitious, this Milwaukie mash-up promises a familiar yellow-brick road with a much darker soundtrack. |
